The Christmas holidays are just around the corner, and Police Commissioner Rolando Benito has received a visit from Italy - two of his grandchildren, the twins Gabriella and Rinaldo, who will spend Christmas with him and Irene in Denmark. He takes the twins to the Christmas stable in front of the Catholic church in Ryesgade in Aarhus; the snow falls quietly and the church bells chime, but the visit to the Christmas stable becomes traumatic for both Rolando and Gabriella.
The next day, Rolando Benito is thrown into the investigation of an infant murder. He works diligently with his team to solve the grisly case, which could appear to be religiously inspired, but he is led down one wrong trail after another in the hunt for a child killer.
Anne Larsen has gone on Christmas vacation with her father in Lithuania and has left the management of Media House Denmark's crime editorial and crime program CrimeWatch to her stepsister, Sabina Lund - and like Anne, Sabina uses every opportunity to get close to the investigation.
